Photo Essay - My Days in Different Countries

Introduction

Everyday is different from the day before. There has never been a time where two days are exactly alike. So every single day, we have new experiences. I have gathered some photos I've taken from different countries over this spring/summer. Lots of memories to rethink and laugh about later.

Hi this is my photo essay over the time from March 2013 till August 2013. SOme of my favorite places I traveled to was Beijing and Taiwan. I hope you'll enjoy my photo essay!!

A brass pot in Beijing

On April 27th, I left to Beijing with the rest of my 6th grade dyad (in our house, Peak) We went to some very important places and we went to see this brass pot in Beijing. I was so busy taking photos that I didn't really here what my teacher said about the brass pot, and it was SO LONG AGO that I don't remember! ^^ But I remember that it was very important and so me and my friend Jasmine were so busy taking photos we nearly lost our group! ^^

A fossil in TaiWan, near the place of the Queen shaped Rock

This was near the famous rock, the Queen Rock, which had been shaped by the wind and waters. There were fossils everywhere but my sister said that they were sand rocks or something. But we were amazed at all the fossils. They were so cool and seemed magical. There was a fossil of a dragonfly that looked just like a fairy too! Sweet!

In front of a very hot spring

In Taiwan we visited a very hot spring. It had steam rising and I felt as if I was melting there. It's a picture of me and my sister. We were burning there, right behind the giant, hot steaming lake of water. It smelled strongly of sulphur and we couldn't stand it. We had walked up, eating ice cream and every few minutes we smelled the ice cream smell then held our breath. It was really funny!!

Cool tent in Tawain
There was a cool tent in Taiwan and I forget what it was for but its design and everything was so cool, especially the one on the door. i was just leaning on the door while taking a photo when the door creaked open. Yeek!! There was a staff member, snoring inside the tent, while people were taking a photo of the tent outside! ^^
Very bad weather here in Korea, in KMLA dorm room
Just a few days ago, there was as terrible storm and the sky turned from grey to yellow to red to purple. This was the red stage of the storm. It was my first time seeing a storm this bad. Just when I was about to take a photo for this photo essay, a giant spider came down. Eeek!!! ^^

The Wicked Witch and Mish

My name is Mish and I'm a cat, a nice pale grey cat to be exact. I have a wonderful owner called Lillibelle Parkinson. She is really nice and gives me tasty fish every single day. She also has a really pretty ruby necklace. It's so shiny and it seems to wink at me. Also, every time Lillibelle wears it, she always seems confident and she always gets lucky.

I was right about it being magical. One day, Lilibelle and I fell asleep on the bed, and suddenly, after a series of crashes just near the door, I woke up. I looked at Lillbelle and she was still sleeping. I heard the door creakkkk as the infamous Welda, the Wicked Witch and her stuck up cat, Mika walked in. Oh! So THATS where Mika went! She just ran away from home and now she's here! But why are they here???? As the moon shined into the room the ruby necklace on Lillibelle's necklace sparkled. Welda quickly turned and her eyes widened as she saw the glinting ruby. She cackled, "At last, oh at last! We've found the red ruby of power Mika! If I take that I will have the ultimate power in the Land of Magic! Mika purred. And in a flash Welda had Lillibelle in her arms and she was running away swiftly. I hesitated. Should I follow her, or should I tell Lillibelle's parents?  I shook my head. What was I thinking?!

I quickly dashed after the Witch, Mika and Lillibelle, carefully staying hidden in the shadow. Finally, after what seemed like hours, we had finally gotten to the end of the Wooden Road, which was the path we'd been following for the last few hours or so. The place was very foggy and misty and I could tell that we'd left Sydney a long while ago. I quickly dived into a bush and continued peeking at the scene in front of me.

Lillibelle had finally woken up from the sudden cold and she looked around, bewildered. And when her eyes met Welda's wicked, ugly and warty face she gave a small shriek. "Where am I? Where is this place? Is this Sydney? Help! Help!" Her small voice shouted. The witch cackled. "Hello my pretty. There's no use shouting like that. There's no one here but me and my cat, Mika." And me! I thought, giggling to myself. "Stop screaming darling, or the pain will only get worse. You see, I used my brilliant brain and my marvelous magic to make the rope tighten around your wrists every time you make a noise. Anyway, give me the gem of power and I'll release you."

"WHAT????? What is that? I don't even know what it is! I don't have it! But release me! HELP!!! HELP!!"

The witch's cackling face suddenly darkened as she heard what Lillibelle said. "You DARE lie to me??? You DARE like to Welda! You shall feel my wrath when you come to Welda's house! I shall punish you severely because of your lie." And ignoring Lillibelle's shrieks she lifted Lillibelle and plopped her down onto a cage with a hook. She locked Lillibelle up and put the key on Mika's neck. Welda threw in a bit of stale bread and shouted, "This is only the beginning of your punishment for lying to Welda. And then, Welda started to get her broomstick ready. I knew that if I was gonna do something, I had to do it now. And with that I...

Movie Review : Wizard of Oz

A few days ago we watched a delightful movie called The Wizard of Oz, which is based on the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was written by L. Frank Baum. The movie was made in 1939 and it was directed by Victor Fleming and basically, Dorothy wants to leave her home and after a wicked tornado, she ends up in the land of Oz. She had wanted to leave her house before but now that she actually had, all she wanted to do is go home. She faced multiple hardships with her friends and in the end she returns home, and she learns, “There is no place like home.”

Miss Gulch, a nasty omen tries to take away Dorothy’s lovely dog Toto, and that’s when Dorothy decides that she wants to leave her home. And then, later when Dorothy tries to return home, there is a crazy tornado and she, her house and Toto is whisked away to Munchkin Land. But as she lands, her house crushes The Wicked Witch of the East and Dorothy meets Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. The Wicked Witch of the West, furious that Dorothy killed her sister, tries to take her beloved sisters ruby slippers but Dorothy gets it first so the Witch of the West disappears, saying to Dorothy, “I’ll get you my pretty” and she vanishes just as quickly as she had appeared. Dorothy wants to go home and Glinda said that if Dorothy follows the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, where she could meet the Wizard of Oz, and he would help her home. So she follows the Yellow Brick Road and on the way she meets new friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Together, they stop the Wicked Witch of the West from interfering and after a VERY long time the 4, well 5 friends finally arrived at the Emerald City. There, they met the Wizard of Oz and he said that if they bring the Wicked Witch of the Wests’ broomstick, he would help them get what they want(The scarecrow wanted a brain, The Tin Man wanted a heart, The Lion wanted bravery, and Dorothy just wanted to go home). So Dorothy melts the Wicked Witch of the West - accidentally, and gets the broomstick and the Wizard of Oz help the new friend Dorothy made but when Dorothy is about to go home with the Wizard of Oz, there are problems and she doesn't get on the hot air balloon that brings the Wizard of Oz back to Kansas. Dorothy later returns home, using her ruby slippers and help from The Good Witch of the South. She learns that there is no where like home. The characters of this movie were:
Dorothy
Toto - Dorothy's trustworthy and loving dog
Auntie Em
Uncle Henry
The Scarecrow
The Tin Man
The Cowardly Lion
The Wizard of Oz
Glinda – the Good Witch of the South
The Wicked Witch of the East – she died when the house fell on her
Miss Gulch - The Wicked Witch of the West - flies on a broomstick, and has a crystal ball
The Munchkins
And the settings were:
The farm in Kansas, Munchkin Land, the Yellow Brick Road, Emerald City and the witch's castle

I think that the two essons were Don't give up and If you believe, you can do it. I think that Don't Give Up is the first lesson because the whole story was about how Dorothy didn't give up, not when there were problems on the Yellow Brick Road, and not when the Wizard of Oz said to just go home. It was her perserverance that helped her through and that helped her return home. She never sat down and said. "This s too difficult," Even though it WAS quite difficult. I think that If You Believe, you can do it, is the second goal becaue once again, Dorothy didn't give up and he b

My 3 Goals

Hi, this is Soobin Choi again. I have three 30 day goals that I wish to achieve during my time here at GLPS. My first goal is to be in good health. I hope that during my time here at GLPS(KMLA) I will stay in good health. My second goal is to improve my leadership skills. And my third goal is to have fun while learning.

My first goal is to have good health. I chose this as my first goal because the most important thing is to be healthy. The reason to that is because if I'm not healthy and in poor condition, I could perhaps not be able to concentrate on my work, or become sick and make it difficult to catch what the teacher says.

My second goal is to improve my leadership skills while I'm here at the Global Leadership Program for Students. I want to achieve this goal in the next 30 days because since this is a program for learning Global Leadership and it teaches about leadership, I should try my best to learn everything ab out good leadership and improve my leadership and after that, I hope that I will be able to use those skills in the future.

My final goal is to have fun while learning. The last thing I want is dreading the next day at school, because there's lots of work. I want to enjoy my lessons because then, I'll be able to bring all the learning and facts into my head and use it again.

So these are my three thirty day goals. Thanks! ^^
